Diego del Alcázar Benjumea, Vice President of IE University, has participated in the opening day, sharing his vision on the role of the humanities in a world transformed by technology and major scientific achievements. The inauguration also included experts such as Evelio Acevedo, Managing Director of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection Foundation; Mirenchu Villa Oliveros, Deputy Director General of Mutua Madrileña, and Susana Torres, Academic Director of Humanities at IE University, who moderated a panel with IE students and alumni who were winners in different editions of the IE Foundation Prizes in the Humanities.

For its part, on April 10 at the Segovia Campus, the Theater Club, composed of about 30 undergraduates from some 20 countries, will stage a version of The Painter, a musical written by IE student Timothé Rigaudeau, from France, which introduces the audience to different artistic forms such as dance, poetry and painting.

The humanities help us to understand the world in a global, broader way, transforming us into better people.

Among the other highlights will be Send a Banana to the Moon!, an interactive talk by Ludovico Asèmat, current Artistic Director of the British Council Spain, in Madrid. The talk discusses how the humanities not only help develop our critical thinking, but also boost our personal growth. Ludovico Asèmat will invite the viewer to think outside the box and share their experiences and passion for the humanities.

IE Humanities Week 2019 also includes several cultural activities off campus organized by Campus Life and student clubs. Among them, students will visit exhibitions at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid and at the Esteban Vicente Museum in Segovia, participate in foundry workshops at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and at coffee and poetry sessions with Ben Clark, winner of the Loewe Foundation’s International Prize.
